How Becoming a Jay Shetty Certified Coach Made Me a Better Entrepreneur

A cozy workspace featuring a red coffee cup, a notebook with handwritten brainstorming ideas, and a laptop displaying a virtual meeting with four participants. This setting represents the balance of focused work and meaningful connection. Randy Belham, the best life coach in Montreal, reflects on how becoming a Jay Shetty Certified Coach has enhanced his entrepreneurial clarity, creativity, and collaboration.

Let's be honest: If you have seen posts like this before, you might already be rolling your eyes or scrolling past them.

Another "inspirational" coach sharing their journey!

I get it.

I've done the same thing.

But if you are still here, let me tell you why this blog post and my story might matter to you.

This is more than convincing you to buy into coaching or sign up for some course.

It's about something much more profound.

It is about learning to lead your life intentionally without burning out or losing sight of what matters most.

I've been there, chasing success so hard that I forgot to ask if I was running in the right direction.

That's why I chose to become a Jay Shetty Certified Coach and why this journey has transformed my career and life.

This article is for you if you have ever felt overwhelmed or disconnected despite all your accomplishments.

Why I Chose to Become a Coach

As a serial entrepreneur, I've been fortunate to build several successful businesses. From founding a private school to launching a summer camp, managing an event company, and even running a scuba diving magazine, I've experienced the thrill of starting and growing ventures.

But with that success came a price. I wasn't prepared for burnout, stress, divorce, and the constant pressure to do more.

Entrepreneurship can be exhilarating, but it's also isolating.

Who do you turn to when you are the one everyone else depends on?

I saw these same struggles in the people around me—other business leaders, friends, and even my team.

I realized that success doesn't mean much if it comes at the cost of your well-being.

That's when I decided I wanted to make a change—not just for myself but for others, too. I wanted to become entrepreneurs' best life coach, empowering them to thrive in every area of their lives, not just in their businesses.

With decades of work ahead of me, I knew I could make a real impact.

There are countless coaching programs out there, but Jay Shetty's approach resonated with me on a deep level. His teachings focus on mindfulness, purpose, and the interconnectedness of all areas of life—values that align perfectly with my vision of coaching.

The certification process was about more than quick fixes or surface-level strategies. It was about diving deep into the art of coaching—learning to guide people to find their answers instead of telling them what to do. This was a huge mindset shift for me.

Before starting the program, I thought coaching was about giving advice and offering solutions.

But I quickly learned that authentic coaching is about asking powerful questions that help people go within themselves, uncover their truths, and create their own solutions.

Two key lessons stood out for me during the certification:

  1. The ABC Framework: This simple yet transformative framework gave me a structure for helping clients achieve clarity and alignment in their lives.

  2. Deep Listening: I learned to truly hear what people are saying—not just their words, but the emotions and intentions behind them.

These tools have made me a better coach, leader, life partner, friend, and parent.

Holistic and Entrepreneurial Coaching

One of the most important things I've learned is that business is just one piece of the pie.

A focused man works on a bicycle wheel in a shop filled with other bikes, symbolizing the interconnectedness of different life areas. Just as each spoke supports the wheel, Randy Belham, the best life coach in Montreal, uses the "wheel of life" approach to help clients balance their relationships, health, personal growth, and business, ensuring every part works harmoniously for a smoother journey.

Life is like a wheel, with different areas—relationships, health, personal growth, and entrepreneurship as the spokes. If one spoke is broken, the wheel can't turn smoothly.

Many entrepreneurs focus so much time and effort on their business that they neglect other parts of their lives. It is isn't uncommon for an entrepreneur to face severe financial hardships, divorce, depression and even burnouts.

The big blind spot is what happens in one area of your life impacts all the others.

If your health is suffering, it affects your focus and energy at work.

If your relationships are strained, it impacts your decision-making and emotional resilience.

My coaching style is holistic and entrepreneurial.

I help my clients see how everything in their lives is connected.

Together, we create balance so they can thrive in every area, not just their business or career.

Misconceptions About Coaching (And Why They're Wrong)

Let's address the elephant in the room.

Coaching sometimes gets a bad rap. Cue the Sugar Sammy performance where he literally roasts me in front of thousands of people. He was actually very funny and an absolute gentleman. After using my profession for comedic material, he asked where people could find me and said www.randybelham.com in front of thousands.

People think it's just fluffy self-help or about telling people how to live their lives.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Real coaching isn't about giving advice.

It's about empowerment.

It's about creating a space where someone feels safe enough to explore their challenges, goals, and dreams.

It's about asking the right questions to unlock their potential.

Another misconception?

That coaching is only for people who are "lost" or struggling.

The reality is that coaching is for anyone who wants to grow, personally or professionally.

Whether you are a leader looking to inspire your team or an entrepreneur trying to scale your business without losing your sanity, coaching can help you achieve your goals.

Transformations I've Witnessed

The most rewarding part of this journey has been witnessing the transformations in my clients.

For example, one client, an entrepreneur, came to me feeling completely overwhelmed. They juggled multiple projects, struggled to prioritize, and felt disconnected from their purpose. Through coaching, they rediscovered what brought them joy and realigned their business with their core values. Today, they are thriving professionally and personally.

A testimonial graphic featuring a smiling woman, Tammy Majors, praising Randy Belham, the best life coach in Montreal. She shares how his coaching provided unmatched feedback and practical tools for improving her personal, business, and family life, making everyday living more balanced and fulfilling.

Another client shared how coaching helped them become a better leader. They learned to listen more deeply, communicate more effectively, and inspire their team with clarity and confidence.

These stories remind me why I do what I do.

Seeing someone step into their power, find balance, and achieve their goals is incredibly fulfilling.

The Value of Coaching Certification for Leaders

Here's something I always tell aspiring leaders:

You don't have to open a coaching practice to benefit from becoming certified.

Whether you realize it or not, you are already coaching as a leader.

You use coaching skills whenever you guide your team, mentor someone, or help a colleague navigate a challenge.

By becoming certified, you can sharpen those skills and become an even more effective leader.

So, my question to you is this:

What's stopping you from taking that step?

Start small if you are worried about the time commitment or need clarification on whether coaching is right for you. Explore your options, reflect on your goals, and consider how coaching could transform your career and life.

The Eyerolls and Scroll Overs

Not everyone will read this far. Some people will see a post like this and think, "Oh, great, another coach talking about their journey."

And that's okay.

Here's the thing: I don't share my story to impress anyone. I share it because I know people out there need to hear it.

Maybe you feel stuck, burnt out, or disconnected from your purpose.

Maybe you have been thinking about making a change but don't know where to start.

If this post reaches even one person who needs that nudge, it's worth it.

So, to the skeptics, I get it. Coaching is not for everyone.

But for those who are open to exploring it, the possibilities are endless.

Lessons from My Journey

Becoming a Jay Shetty Certified Coach has taught me so much, but if I had to sum it up, here are the biggest lessons:

  1. Balance is Everything: Success in business means little if the rest of your life is out of balance.

  2. Listen First, Speak Last: Deep Listening is one of the most powerful skills you can develop.

  3. Questions > Answers: The right questions can change someone's life.

  4. Growth Is a Choice: Whether you are an entrepreneur, a leader, or someone looking to improve, growth starts with a decision to take action.

If you've made it this far, thank you.

My journey to becoming a Jay Shetty Certified Coach has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life.

It's helped me become a better leader, a better listener, and a better human being.

So, what about you?

Whether you are an entrepreneur, a leader, or someone searching for clarity, I encourage you to take a step toward growth.

Reflect on what's holding you back.

Ask yourself, "What's stopping me from becoming the best version of myself?"

Your journey doesn't have to look like mine, but it does have to start somewhere.

And if this post is the nudge you needed, I'm glad I shared it.

The world needs more leaders, coaches, and people willing to grow.

Will you be one of them?
